A beginners guide to drafting a corset pattern taking place over 2 days and aimed at those wishing to begin exploring the exciting and deeply creative art of corset patterning.
This is a very intense course and it is recommended that attendees are familiar with basic block patterns for dressmaking as this will aid understanding of the corset block.
This corset patterning class will cover taking measurements, how the measurements relate to the body and the pattern, and how to transfer those measurements onto paper to create a beautiful shape altering garment. The pattern we will create will be a basic six panel overbust pattern. When your pattern has been drafted you will make a mock up using calico, to check fit. Adjustments will then be transferred to your master pattern and you will be ready to create your own, bespoke corset, from proper corsetry materials and fashion fabric (not included in this course). There will also be notes on how to convert the over bust pattern into an underbust pattern and how to change the style and shape.
The following topics will be covered:
Measurements required for corsetry, and taking accurate measurements
The corset block and how it works
Drafting a basic 6 panel modern hourglass overbust corset pattern to your own measurements
Making a toile (mock-up) from your personal pattern to check for perfect fit
